Prof. Ernan Rustiadi was born in Bandung, October 11, 1965. Prof. Ernan graduated from the Department of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture, IPB in 1989, then recruited as an assistant lecturer by Prof. Lutfi Ibrahim Nasoetion in the same department in 1990. In 1993, Prof. Ernan continued his studies at the Regional Planning Laboratory, Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyoto University under the guidance of Prof. Teitaro Kitamura and Prof. Shintaro Kobayashi. His doctoral education was completed in the same laboratory under the guidance of Prof. Shintaro Kobayashi in 1999.

During his career at IPB, Prof. Ernan has served as Head of the Regional Planning Study Program, founder and Head of the Center for Regional Development Planning Studies (P4W), Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Head of the Institute Development Institute, Head of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), and currently serves as Vice Rector for Research, Innovation and Agromaritime Development.

Prof. Ernan was involved in the preparation of several academic manuscripts for draft laws, including Law 26/2007 on Spatial Planning, Law 41/2009 on Sustainable Food Crop Land Protection. In addition, he played a role as an Expert Team in the Preparation of the 2015-2045 Master Strategy for Agricultural Development, the Peat Restoration Agency (BRG), preparing various development plans and spatial planning starting from the village, Regency/City, Province and various Ministries and Institutions levels in Indonesia.

Prof. Ernan is active in several organizations including: Indonesian Regional Science Association, Regional Science Association International, Japan Rural Planning Association, Rural and Research Planning Group (RRPG), Japan Geoscience Union, International Geographer Union, Indonesian Soil Science Association, Indonesian Peat Association, Indonesian Planning School Association (ASPI), Jabodetabek Study Forum, and others.

At the undergraduate level, Prof. Ernan teaches and supervises students in the land resource management study program, and at the master’s and doctoral levels in the Soil Science study program, Regional Planning Study Program, Regional and Rural Development Planning Study Program, Master of Regional Development and Doctoral Program of Natural Resource and Environmental Management Study Program. Prof. Ernan also supervises Japanese students in the Kyoto University Double Master Degree Program.
